Parking and access
Parking
Free roadside parking along Lawaʻi Road, mostly on the inland side across from the beach. It is limited and fills at busy snorkel times and around sunset. Park only where it is allowed. There is no public beach lot. The Beach House restaurant lot and the Lawai Beach Resort lots are not public beach parking; the restaurant runs paid valet at dinner.
Getting to the sand
Cross Lawaʻi Road to the sand beside the Beach House lawn. The road is narrow and busy, so watch for cars. Guides say restrooms and outdoor showers are on the inland side of the road, across from the beach.
Lifeguard
Not guarded. The County of Kauaʻi Ocean Safety Bureau doesn't list a lifeguard tower here.
About Lāwaʻi Beach
Lāwaʻi Beach, better known as Beach House Beach, is a small strip of sand on Lawaʻi Road in Poʻipū, on Kauaʻi's South Shore, along the road to Spouting Horn. It sits beside the lawn of the Beach House restaurant, across the road from the Lawai Beach Resort. Lāwaʻi is the name of the valley to the west; snorkel and dive operators gave it to this beach. Prince Kūhiō Park, birthplace of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole in 1871, is a short way back along the same road.
Snorkelers walk in from the sand to a reef just offshore to look for tangs, butterflyfish, parrotfish and green sea turtles, and rental shops and snorkel tours bring groups here. Farther out, surfers ride breaks known as PK's, Centers and Acid Drops. The sand nearly disappears at high tide, and the bottom turns rocky. There is no lifeguard, guides warn of strong currents when the surf is up, and a snorkeler died after being pulled from the water here in November 2025.
Lāwaʻi Beach (also called Beach House Beach) is a beach on Kauaʻi’s South Shore, on the south-facing coast. No County lifeguard tower covers it. Its surf follows the National Weather Service forecast for South-facing shores, and its tides follow NOAA’s Port Allen station.
