About Kekaha Beach Park
Kekaha Beach Park, listed by the County as MacArthur Park, runs along Kaumualiʻi Highway at the west edge of Kekaha, a former sugar plantation town on Kauaʻi's West Side whose Kekaha Sugar Company mill took in cane trucks daily into the 1990s. The park sits between mile markers 26 and 27, the last paved stretch before the road to Polihale. From here a wide band of sand runs northwest for miles, and on clear days Niʻihau rises on the horizon.
Local surfers ride breaks with names like Davidsons and Intersections, anglers fish from the sand, and people come to walk the long beach and watch the sun set over the water. The park has pavilions, picnic tables and a restroom, and a County lifeguard tower is staffed daily, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is no reef offshore: State tourism and County sources warn of strong currents and shorebreak, and lifeguards have closed the water after tiger shark sightings.
Kekaha Beach Park (also called MacArthur Park, Kekaha Beach) is a beach on Kauaʻi’s West Side, on the south-facing coast. A County lifeguard tower covers it. Its surf follows the National Weather Service forecast for South-facing shores, and its tides follow NOAA’s Waimea Bay station. Facilities: restrooms.
